Tim Chaisson’s solo acoustic set:
One of the most blessed and hardest working singer-songwriters in the Canadian Maritimes has to be Charlottetown’s Tim Chaisson. Born into a musical family, Tim began performing professionally at 14 with the Celtic band Kindle and has since recorded five albums of his own, including his latest, The Other Side, which just won a Canadian East Coast Music Award (ECMA) for Best Roots Traditional Album Solo. Not only is this guy a good songwriter, as a multi-instrumentalist Tim’s proficient on guitar, bass, piano, drums and fiddle. Tim recorded his acoustic session for NOTB this past January while on tour in Australia. You’ll hear intimate versions of 3 songs from The Other Side, including Beat This Heart. The recorded version of that song features guest vocals by Serena Ryder who’s also on tonight’s show.
Emma-Lee’s solo acoustic set:
With the release of her new record, Backseat Heroine, Toronto’s Emma-Lee is starting to gain the kind of national attention a killer voice like hers deserves. Once pegged as a jazz-pop chanteuse, Backseat Heroine marks the artist’s emergence as one of Canada’s hottest new roots singers. Think Grace Potter meets Bonnie Raitt and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what you’ll be getting from Emma-Lee. Tune in tonight for an acoustic session recorded live in Emma-Lee‘s Toronto living room featuring 2 songs from the new record and one brand new song co-written with East Coast singer-songwriter Carleton Stone, who, incidentally, ends this week’s show with a song of his own.
In addition to the two acoustic sets you can expect to hear new music by Serena Ryder, Royal Wood and Christina Martin, as well as a superb song by yet another Maritimer, Dennis Ellsworth. Let’s just call this the singer-songwriter edition of the show.
The playlist for the program posts before midnight and features links to all of the artists featured.
